The Opportunity

We are looking for a driven, motivated associate who is passionate about supporting a variety of clients spanning different industries and helping us build one of the fastest-growing public relations and public affairs companies.

The ideal candidate is a skilled and creative writer who can deliver A+ work on everything from a press release to a long-form thought leadership piece to a client report. We are looking for a communications/PR pro with a solid track record of landing impactful media stories and the confidence to swing for the fences again and again. The ideal candidate for this position will be proactive, creative, detail-oriented, and self-motivated.

Riff is a remote-first organization with the team working PT hours and primarily based in the San Francisco Bay Area. This position reports to the CEO and president.


  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of our clients including their business, products/services, competitors, influencers and markets
  • Pitch media and conduct community outreach on behalf of clients
  • Build and maintain media lists for multiple clients
  • Draft a wide variety of communications materials (press releases, pitches, statements, blog posts, newsletters, thought leadership pieces, etc.)
  • Support management of client teams through drafting agendas, recaps, and coverage reports
  • Monitoring news trends
  • Conduct miscellaneous research for clients as needed
  • Provide general business support, which could include updating the Riff City Strategies’ website, drafting newsletters, posting to company’s social channels or contributing to new business efforts


  • Two to fours years of professional experience in public relations, communications, journalism, government or a related field
  • Strong working knowledge of the media industry, and a general understanding of and interest in tech, environmental and civic engagement
  • Strong research, proofreading, creative writing and editing skills
  • Previous experience preparing media lists, drafting pitches and press releases, pitching media
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, and able to work on multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines
  • Confident and positive, with a strong sense of initiative and able to take direction
  • Computer experience including, but not limited to, G Suite

Preferred qualifications:

  • Previous experience with MuckRack or similar PR platforms
  • Previous experience in public affairs and working with community stakeholders

Riff is a remote-first organization with the team primarily based in the San Francisco Bay Area. The annual salary range for this position is $65,000-71,400.00.
